The internet is a confusing, massive multi-universe where is it easy to drown in a sea of advertisements or get lost in distracting links and web pages. Keywords are the breadcrumbs that lead to your business. However, you must choose the appropriate verbiage to attract the golden goose or you might end up infested with pigeons. Experience will tell teach you which words are best for your business but there are tools out there that will spark the storm in your brain.

Google AdWords performs promotional assistance to those businesses in need. Adwords showcase your advertisements on their network and helps you to budget your company’s marketing costs. Put plainly, businesses only pay Google when their advertisements are clicked. This program places heavy emphasis on the importance of the keywords used in searches.

Keyword Planner

To make your life easier, Google has created the Keyword Planner. This program’s function is to help a marketer decide which Keywords to use during their advertising campaign. It allows you to research relevant keywords and test which drive the most traffic to your website. In addition to recording statistics, Keyword Planner also provides predictions as to how well a phrase may work for your site. This will help you decided how much money to allocate towards your marketing budget which will save you time and money.

How to Use Keyword Planner

To sign up for the service is free. Once inside of Google AdWords, click the Tools button and select Keyword Planner from the drop down menu. Type in the kind of business you would like suggested keywords for. Remember to add the specific location of your business so that Google knows how to rank it. For example, your roofing business might read, “Roofing, Downtown Miami, Florida.” Using a more exact address will make it easier for Google to rank you, however, it will generate less searches. Successful companies start off with a specific location then as business grows, they expand to reach larger markets. The Get Ideas button will generate a list of possible keywords. Keyword Planner will display the average monthly searches for each phrase and suggest a bid amount.

Relevance of Keywords

The science of choosing the perfect keyword is an ongoing process. Certain keywords depreciate over time. Keep this in mind when calculating your budget because you may not want to bid on words that will not direct traffic a few months from now. Stay away from words that are restricted to current events and periods. Choosing the right keywords is important and will drive attention to your business, so invest the proper time it takes to make a well-informed decision.
